Algebra: 7.3.2 Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

Submit 7-85 to 7-90 (40 pts)

LT:  Students will discover that the slopes of perpendicular lines are opposite reciprocals, lines that are parallel have the same slope, and using that relationship to find the equation of a line given a point and a line perpendicular to it.

Extended Learning

ALGEBRA:

LT:  Students will learn how to find y=mx+b given the slope and one point on the line.

  • Read through and answer 7-82 as a review of the concept from Monday.
  • Complete 7-83 as a group.  There are two problems.
    • After 7-83, individually, write a blog post using one of the two problems.  Include the following in your blog post.
      • A picture showing details of work
      • Description detailing specific steps to finding the y=mx+b when given the slope and a point
    • Label the post
  • Group:  Complete 7-84

Algebra 7-71: How Can I Use y=mx+b?

Submit Score 7-73 to 7-78

7-71. THE BIG RACE

LT:  Students will practice finding slopes and linear equations while solving a challenging team problem.

Today is the final event of the big race!  You and your team will compete against Leslie and Elizabeth at today's rally.

Your Task:
As a team do the following:

  • Draw a graph on your whiteboard showing all of the racers' progress over time.
  • Write an equation for each participant
  • Determine who will win the race!
Rules:
  • Your study team must work cooperatively to solve the problems.  No team member has enough information to solve the puzzle alone!
  • Each member of the team will select rider A, B, C, or D.  You may not show your card to your team.  You may only communicate with words the information contained on the card.
  • Assume that each racer travels at a constant rate throughout the race.
  • Elizabeth's and Leslie's cards will be shared by the entire team.
Now:
  • Get the Information
Elizabeth
Is 11 meters into the race after four seconds
but is only 13 meters in after 12 seconds
(her tricycle is slow because she has a flat tire)

Leslie
Leslie rides two meters per second and starts
two seconds after the start of the race.

Who is going to win the race?

YOU MAY VIEW ONLY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING!!!!
DON'T BE TEMPTED!!!

***Verbally give information found on YOUR card to your team!***

PreAlgebra - Similar Figures

LT: Students will identify corresponding sides of similar figures.

Using the Skitch with the picture below.

RS 74  Use the Skitch or Explain Everything app.

RS 75 - 77 Group work

ALGEBRA:

LT:  Students will understand slope as a rate.  Students will connect m and b with contextual problems.

Discuss the 7.2.1 problems.  Post one picture of a problem along with a brief description of the problem on your blog.

i STILL HAVE THE COOLEST BIKE

7-62:  You will be creating three y = equations that will corresponding to the rate of speed of each bike rider.

ALGEBRA Quiz Reflection and 7.2.1 Problems

Learning Target:  Students will solidify their knowledge of slope and the use of y=mx+b through quiz reteaching and additional practice.

You need motivation to learn this stuff?  While this is a speech to motivate children to ride bikes, consider it your motivational speech to master these math concepts.

1.  View the reteaching videos for the problems that you did not understand.  Make all corrections on your quiz!!!  (Be patient - this was my first time recording with Explain Everything - some of the videos have multiple introductions - eventually the video gets to the problem!- Thanks for your understanding)

2.  After viewing the reteaching videos and making corrections on your quiz, complete a blog post entry. Title your blog post: "Quiz Reflection".  Include the following questions and responses.
  • Describe two concepts from Chapter 7 that you understand.  Give a specific example from the quiz or create your own.  Use images to enhance your response.
  • Describe two concepts from Chapter 7 that need your attention prior to the final test.  These are items that you learned more about today and that you need to complete additional problems before the test.  Use images to enhance your response.
3.  In Whiteboard Groups!  Complete 7.2.1 problems (Touch Link -> File -> Download -> Open With...) that require you to find the slope, y-intercept, slope triangle, and y form (y=mx+b).  After you complete these problems, the work will be posted to your blog demonstrating continued practice with concepts from Chapter 7.

PreAglebra 2 One Big Minute

Learning Target:   Students will describe the relationship between the diameter, circumference, and pi based on the knowledge they received the past two days.

Opening Song For Creation Ideas:

It's now your turn!
Use any app, video, or pictures to use in the Explain Everything app to create a one (1) minute video describing the relationship between the diameter and the circumference of the circle.  Include how to use the formulas that we learned about yesterday!

PreAlgebra 2 Diameter and Circumference Actual Measurements

1.  Take a picture of a real object labeling the diameter and circumference of the picture.  Post it to your blog.

2.  You will need to record measurements for as many objects as possible from the list found on the link.  You can only take one item from the table at the time.

Create this chart in your notebook: GET THE LIST

RECORD THE MEASUREMENTS FOUND IN YOUR SHARED DOCUMENT

U.S. Constitution Quiz - OFFICIAL

Take The Quiz

ALGEBRA: 7.1.3 7-19 to 7-24

Measuring Steepness: An introduction

LT:  Students will gain an abstract understanding of slope as they discover that slope is the change in y divided by the change in x.

The letter "m" in y = mx + b traditionally used for slope, comes from the French verb "monter", which means "to climb".

= Greek letter "delta" often represents a difference or change
